Henry Hitchcock Award

Entrance to Monastery Chapel

HENRY HITCHCOCK AWARD

On December 5, 2005, the Mobile Historic Development Commission presented the Henry Hitchcock Award to the Sacred Heart Chapel of the Visitation Monastery.  The sisters were honored by this acknowledgement of their efforts to preserve and maintain a sacred space for the spiritual enrichment of the citizens of Mobile and all those who visit the chapel.

Since the sisters were not able to attend the awards ceremony, they asked Mr. and Mrs. Owen Blackwell, good friends and faithful stewards to accept the award for them, and to express their gratitude for the assistance and support they received from so many outstanding members of the local community, most notably Ramona and Bob Doyle (both sadly now deceased), who helped to make possible the restoration of this small but significant portion of Mobile's living heritage.
